About the Prints for Sale

The Raverat Archive sells both original and giclee prints by Gwen Raverat. Each individual listing on the website gives details of the date the wood block was cut, the size of the print image (not the sheet size), and if the print is signed or unsigned. Both original and giclee prints are sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the Archive Director William Pryor.

What is an original or lifetime print?

Any print on the website that does not specify that it is a giclee print is an original or 'lifetime' print. These prints were 'pulled' (made) by Gwen Raverat herself on her own press between 1909 and 1951. The majority of her prints are black and white, however she did cut a smaller number of colour prints, where each colour has a separate block or are hand coloured. Some of her prints are signed, but the majority are not. Edition sizes vary greatly: for some prints she made editions of 100, others just a few copies (our pricing reflects this). Gwen Raverat usually printed on Japan Paper. All of the original prints for sale are independently produced print, rather than pages removed from books.

What is a giclee or posthumous print?

All giclee prints are clearly labelled on our website and have been posthumously printed, as many of Gwen’s images are no longer available in prints she pulled herself. Giclee prints are fine art prints of archival standard. These are printed on smooth textured 300gsm 100% Cotton Rag paper from the Hahnemühle Fine Art, Inc. paper mill (noted as the very best paper mill in the world) using original Epson Ultrachrome ink.

Are all the prints signed?

No. Gwen did not sign all of her prints. There is a dedicated section on our website for signed prints, which includes some giclee prints that bear her initials /name. As the majority of Gwen’s work was unsigned we sell all original prints with a certificate of authenticity signed by the Archive Director William Pryor, as proof they are from the estate. Giclee prints are sold with a different certificate to show they were purchased from the archive.

Which prints are available?

Our website is a comprehensive list of all available prints (both original and giclee). You can search by may subject areas / collections however please do not hesitate to contact us if you are looking for anything in particular.

Can prints be mounted?

We are happy to arrange for your orginal or giclee print(s) to be mounted for the additional cost (per print). All of the mounts used are made from acid-free card and your print is lightly secured with acid-free gum to the backing sheet. Our skilled framer cuts the window in the front card centrally on the horizontal axis, but leaves more card below than above so as to set the image off to its best advantage.

How can I pay online?

All purchases are through our secure and easy to navigate website. There is the option to pay via credit card (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express), Visa Debit or via PayPal.

Do you accept International orders?

International customers can order directly from the site. Please note that all shipments to OUTSIDE the EU (European Union) may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are the responsibility of the purchaser.
